Sawdust From the Board

August 1, 2019

Thanks again to all that former board president (and now clerk) Karen Palmer has done for UUSO during the past four years. The baton is now officially in my hands and I will do my best to live up to the honor.

The first board meeting of the 2019-20 fiscal year was held on July 24. The first part of the meeting was open to all. After the open part of the meeting, we met for a less formal retreat.

During the open meeting, we took care of some annual record-keeping, like setting the dates for the Congregational meetings, which will be on October 27 and May 17. The minister’s annual self-assessment was reviewed and will be published in the newsletter. The Treasurer reviewed, corrected, or explained all budget lines that reported over 2 percent of their anticipated expense.

Board meetings will always be on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The exception to that rule will be November. Given that Thanksgiving will be the day after the 4th Wednesday this year, the board will meet on Nov. 20 instead. As per our tradition, there will not be a meeting in December.

We also voted to release the draft board meeting agenda to the congregation on the website the Sunday before the monthly board meeting. Please keep in mind that this is not a final document. The agenda can (and does!) change right up until the meeting begins.

Minister’s Agreement

The plan for the agreement has been set in motion. The first draft will be completed by Rosemary Summers and Rev. Craig during the first two weeks of August. It will be presented for a second round of congregational input, then the board will finalize the next draft.

Next Board Meeting:

The board will meet on August 28, 2019, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Congregants are welcome to observe during the regular board meeting. We will hold the Sounding Board on Sunday, August 25 after the service to hear any comments, questions, or concerns to be brought to the Board. The agenda will be available on the website by 8 p.m. on that Sunday.
