Information for Applicants:
You are applying for a grant from The Unitarian Universalist Society Endowment Fund. Broadly
speaking, the endowment makes grants for two purposes:
1. Activities or programs that enhance the Society’s operation or the wider Unitarian Universalist mission,
but that are not included in the Society’s operating budget. Examples of such activities or programs are
enhancing the music program, providing camperships for youth in the Society, and providing leadership
2. Activities or programs that enhance the greater Oneonta community at large. These might
include providing social services to members of the community, or programs that beautify the
community, organize community events or otherwise enrich the lives of those living here.
Individuals or groups providing services to the Society or to the community are welcome to apply for
The Society is located in Oneonta, and virtually all of the people active in the Society live within 25
miles of Oneonta. It is to individuals and organizations providing services within this area that most
of our grants will probably be made.
We encourage applicants to comment on the manner in which the proposed activities or programs
further the realization of any of the Principles of Unitarian Universalism. They are:
The inherent worth and dignity of every person
Justice, equity and compassion in human relationships
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process
The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
The endowment’s bylaws and written procedures limit our total grants. We anticipate that most of
our grants will be for less than $1000. We would like to make grants to individuals, organizations, or
programs within organizations, for which this amount will make a difference. This is likely to mean
that volunteer-based organizations are better positioned to successfully apply for grants from the
PLEASE NOTE: Those receiving grants are expected to send a brief progress report to the
committee in and a final report at the end of the project.
