According to the UUSO Bylaws: Any person, having reached the age of fifteen, who agrees with the purpose and spirit of this Society may become a Member by assenting to the Bylaws and signing the Membership book in the presence of the Minister or the President of the Board of Trustees. No test of creed or character shall be imposed as a condition of Society Membership. Membership is renewed annually in accordance with the following policy:
Membership Affirmation Process Policy
Membership in the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta must be affirmed every year. Membership may be affirmed by any one of the following:
- Signing in at a Congregational meeting.
- Making a pledge of record.
- Notifying the Minister, Office Administrator, or the Board of Trustees, of a desire to affirm membership.
BECOMING A MEMBER
Application for membership in the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta, Inc. involves the following:
- Completion of the Getting to Know UU-Pathway to Membership Orientation. *
- Signing the Membership Book in acknowledgement of the UUSO covenant and in the presence of the Minister or the Board of Trustees President.
- During the annual pledge drive, members are expected to make a pledge of record that aligns with their means, to support the church’s operations and goals for healthy sustainability.
*Individuals who were members of other Unitarian Universalist congregations will not be required to attend the Orientation.
The Getting to Know UU-Pathway to Membership Orientation is offered twice annual as a two-hour in-person or Zoom session. Those who decide to become members are invited to participate in the New Member Welcome Sunday service.
